Tips for traveling with kids

Traveling with little ones is intimidating for sure…. But don’t let it stop you. Traveling with kids is such a wonderful and memorable experience.  Here’s a few tricks and things I’ve found that have really helped us make traveling with a kid a fun experience.

As they get older you’ll need to bring this to help entertain them. These are a few of my favorites for 6 months to at least 2 years old:

Traveling up to 8 months: This is all about patience. Have snacks and milk ready! Kids at this age love everything, you table tray, an empty water bottle and the magazines. Be sure to have some baby friendly hand sanitizer. This one is my favorite:

Any trip that you’re heading on with a newborn to about 2 years old and you’re looking for a toy, this is it!! It is great for your child to put in their mouth, look at the colors and eventually play with. Such a fun toy and takes up minimal room in your diaper bag.

Once they are about 8 months old you might need a couple items to entertain your child. Something new is usually more appealing. I recommend getting a couple items depending on the length of your trip. Although something new is always a sure win for mom and dad, Buckle Toy - Buster Square (see picture on left) has been a lifesaver from 8 months on. He loves trying to clip the buckles, see the animals and figure out numbers!! I don’t go on a trip without it! It also has a zipper with a little pocket, perfect for putting a little animal in for a fun surprise. Bath toys are the perfect size!

My son is obsessed with stickers! These are a few of our favorites. So great to put on and off the window in the airplane... and you know you'll do it more than once. I get a lot of compliments from the flight attendants on how great of an idea it is. Themed stickers are also a lot of fun too!

Snack time…. or better yet dessert time. This is a great game to challenge your kid and get a reward. I put M&Ms in the pill container. They get so excited when it opens and they see a M&M! As they get older you can have them break them up by colors…. get creative! Fun size M&Ms are great for traveling and limiting how many your kid eats (and me too!)  Ezy Dose Travel (7-Day) Pill, Medicine

Tablet:  I waited as long as I could to purchase this for my son. I hate to admit it but it’s a life saver on those longer road trips or plane flights. There’s also a lot of educational apps you can download!

SAMSUNG Galaxy Tab A Kids Edition 8”, 32GB Wifi Tablet Silver 2019

Here’s a better kid friendly case with a stand!! Samsung Galaxy Tab Shockproof Light Weight Protective Handle Stand Kids Case for Galaxy Tab A 8.0

Non-Samsung user and a bit cheaper, here’s another good option.

Fire HD 8 Kids tablet, 8" HD display, ages 3-7, 32 GB

Don’t forget the kid friendly earphones! We just upgraded to wireless and so thankful that we did. Our son always pulled on the cord and got tangled on it. Not sure how, but definitely the typical toddler. Highly recommend these, but there are a lot of great options out there! For a cheaper option that has great reviews, try these.
